Schlachters Awarded by Bayley for Leading by Example
Rosemary and Mark Schlachter receive Bayley Diamond Tribute Award from Bayley

Cincinnati, OH (October 2011) – Bayley, Cincinnati’s west-side’s community leader in senior care, awarded Rosemary and Mark Schlachter with the 2011 Bayley Diamond Tribute Award in October for their lifelong giving to the Greater Cincinnati community.

Rosemary and Mark Schlachter have spent a lifetime giving of themselves to the community, leading by daily example.  They are active in many organizations including Dress for Success, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, United Way, the Cincinnati Ballet, the University of Cincinnati, and most especially Bayley,  a non-profit faith-based ministry providing vibrant living for adults at every stage.   Bayley awarded the Schlachters with the 2011 Diamond Tribute Award, an honor presented to individuals or organizations who have made a significant difference in the community through leadership, advocacy, philanthropy, or achievement.

“Bayley is so important to me.  Our hearts are really brimming over with thanks,” Rosemary Schlachter expressed after receiving the award.  “I was raised to think that lightening will strike if you give your money away.  Philanthropy is a wonderful endeavor . . . and it has been my lot in life to promote philanthropy.  Not only will lightening not strike when you give your money back, but it comes back to you exponentially.”

Western Hills Country Club was packed on October 14 with more than 150 Bayley supporters , the Schlachter’s friends,  family, and many from the east side of Cincinnati.  “We can lead you home; we know how to get to the other side!” Schlachter quipped with a smile.

Schlachter has been very active with Bayley since 1999, having served on many committees and currently as Chair of the Bayley Board of Directors.  She has been focused on securing the future for Bayley in light of funding declines and the ever changing state of healthcare.  Her expertise as a philanthropist, entrepreneur in the health and wellness field, and professional fundraising consultant has been invaluable.

Mark Schlachter has focused his energies in a multitude of fields, including teaching, broadcasting, theatre and the arts and together they have made a difference in organizations throughout Cincinnati with financial support and active and engaged leadership.

“The magic is through giving, but also through passion,” commented Mark Schlachter. “Everything we do is with passion.  I hope all of you find your passion tonight.”

In conjunction with the Diamond Tribute Award, Kinnaird S. McQuade received the Sister Jeanne Roach Service to Bayley Award which recognizes an individual who has dedicated himself or herself to making Bayley the excellent community it is today.    Sr. Jeanne Roach, Bayley’s retired president and CEO, was the first recipient and the award’s namesake for her ten year legacy of leadership and dedicated service.  The award recipient is never announced until the award presentation at the annual dinner event.

Upon acceptance of the award, a surprised Kinny McQuade noted, “This is very meaningful to me and my wife.  We have enjoyed the benefits of Bayley through an aunt who had wonderful care at Bayley for years.  And, the Sisters of Charity are a great inspiration to me.”

McQuade has been a tireless and energetic ambassador for Bayley, having served on Bayley’s Board of Directors since 2005.  He is active in the Greater Cincinnati community, sitting on many boards, including the Ronald McDonald House and the Cincinnati Art Museum, as well as the Rotary Club.  Recently retired from Prestige Audio Visual Services, Bayley has been the fortunate recipient of his creative ideas and endless focus on finding solutions.

“Kinny is always willing to think outside of the box and put his creative juices to work for us.    How lucky we are to have him as our dear friend and advocate,” described Adrienne Walsh, president and CEO of Bayley.

The Bayley Diamond Tribute Awards Dinner is an annual fundraising event that benefits Bayley residents and Bayley Adult Day program members in need.  Sponsors of this event included the SC Ministry Foundation, Robert and Debra Chavez, Fort Washington Investment Advisors, the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, Turner Construction, the Edgar Willig Family, Fifth Third Bank, Good Samaritan Hospital, Haller Homes, Home City Ice, Omnicare, SMART Healthcare Services Corp., Plante & Moran, PLLC, Smith Beers Yunker & Company, American Elevators, R.
